The once elusive ZZ Raven is now widely available pretty much everywhere thanks to some big name growers. I’m so happy that more “rare” plants are hitting the market. Plants should be available and affordable to any and everyone. The Zamioculas Zamiifolia Raven like its green cousin is very easy to grow and a great plant to add to your collection.

How to grow a ZZ Raven

  1. Water Properly
  2. Soil- Well Draining
  3. Light – Bright Indirect

The most important thing to know about ZZ Raven Care is how to water it. You can easily overwater this plant because It can go so long without being watered. ZZ Ravens have a tuberous growth under the soil that stores water. This means that you can let this plant go quite a while without water. I give my ZZ’s water every 6 weeks.

ZZ plants are not complicated when it comes to soil requirements. I use a basic soil mix for all of my ZZ’s. Three parts basic soil. By basic soil I mean any brand bagged potting soil. Then I mix it with one part cactus soil. Because you are not watering your ZZ plant very often you don’t need the soil to dry out too quickly.

Considered a low light plant, the ZZ Raven is tolerant of many different lighting conditions. It can handle anywhere from low light to bright with some direct light. I prefer to keep my ZZ’s in bright indirect light. I feel that the plant grows faster if you grow it in brighter lighting conditions.

If you have a darker corner that needs some plant life, this is the houseplant for you. It can handle low levels of light and still grow pretty well. Remember that if you put this plant in lower light it will need to be watered less often.

Houseplants have a way of livening up your home. Added them to every room can make your home feel alive and connect you closer to nature.

Happy Gardening,
