I did it again! I decided after doing the filing cabinet makeover, I wanted to continue doing low cost makeovers. This table came with my hubby when we got married. Its smaller than a coffee table but bigger than a side table. We’ve used it in our bedrooms to sit TV’s on and at one point we had a doll house on it. Recently I decided that I wanted to use it to sit my plants on and it works perfectly in front of a window. Since the last makeover done in the garage took so long I decided to move the party to the basement.

Apparently, I did not take enough before photos while the table was still upstairs so I had to grab photo’s where it was in the background. Doh!

This was a relatively easy table to paint. I did some light sanding then painted it with primer then painted it in one million coats of white paint…

This project cost me zero dollars as we already had the paint and brushes. We bought the paint for touch ups a doors in the house months ago. Still haven’t painted any doors nor have we done any touch ups…

I love the detail on this table. Its funny the things you notice when you have to sand, prime and paint furniture.

Did some light sanding on the top. No clue what type of sand paper or grit as I found a piece in the garage and decided it was good enough.

Did you know that primer is sticky? I was trying to clean my brush and started using my hands. Big mistake! It clung to my hands and was very hard to get it to wash off.

I love it!! It brightens up the room!

Awww man I just noticed a drip. Oh well it happens when your painting in a dark basement.

This was an easy peasy project and now I have a gorgeous spot to place my smaller pots.

This is the first file cabinet makeover I’ve ever done on the blog! I cannot say how fun this make over was because it wasn’t. This was hard, time consuming and stressful at times. The outcome was so worth it because now I have this gorgeous piece of office furniture.

This is the before of the filing cabinet. I got this free from my father in law. He was clearing out some stuff and asked if anyone wanted it. I said yes without any sort of plan so It sat in my basement for months.

So to prep I decided that I was going to sand it slightly all over. Especially this big rusty spot on the top. Funny thing is after I was done sanding I read the bottle of spray paint I bought and it said not to sand any furniture made past a certain date due to possible lead being released in the air… Doh! I did this in an open garage so there was a lot of air flow and hopefully no lead eeek.

The drawers were full of spider webs, dust and crust yuck. I wiped down the cabinet and drawers after I was done sanding and releasing lead into the air.

I used Matte Wild Rose Krylon spray paint I bought from Lowes for $3.98 a can. I can tell you that I only bought 3 cans thinking it would be enough. I wasn’t… I had to go back to the store for 5 more cans. I was not happy. Bright side is that I love this color and now that I’m finished I am really proud of myself for sticking with it!

I mean this color!!! It’s the most beautiful sight I’ve ever seen in my whole entire life!

The drawers were a pain because I had to take off the hardware and spray them in silver/ chrome. After painting each side you have to let it dry for at least an hour. I did longer because I wanted to make sure it was set.

At this point I’m tearing up because its so beautiful! All the hard work and possible lead poisoning was so worth it. It took me about 5 days to complete this because I didn’t work on it everyday and I let it completely dry in between sprays.

My tips for any paint/ spray paint project. 1. Use a mask. Its fumy and you don’t want to have that going up your nose. 2. Use a drop cloth so you have less mess to clean up later. 3. Don’t sand anything that’s super old without know if it was painted with lead paint. Nobody likes Lead poisoning. I hope you enjoyed my first d.i.y on the blog!
