5 Garden Items You Shouldn’t Throw Away!

November 4, 2021

Hey Gardeners! The season is nearing the end and now it’s time for garden clean up and prepping for next year. I’ve got some items you need to make sure to keep for the next garden season. We are so quick to throw these things away but I want to encourage you to stop and give it a second thought. You may be able to find use for some of these items.

Hanging Planters. These come in so handy in the garden and are gorgeous hung with a trailing plant spilling over the sides. I’ve collected so many hanging baskets over the years I no longer have to buy any and it’s awesome.

Nursery pots. If your a seed starter or like to start your garden bulbs before your first frost date nursery pots come in handy. I start 99% of my vegetable plants indoors and I use every available pot I can. Be sure to save them in all sizes because you never know what you’ll need in the upcoming season. Here’s a link to the black nursery pots in the picture below. I used these this summer and loved them.

Plant Tags. I don’t know how many times I’ve forgotten a plant name. Too many times to count that’s for sure. I now save my plant tags. It’s important if you need to research information on a plant and if you do YouTube videos like me you need to know the name of the plants your showing.

Spent plants or trimmings. Don’t toss those in the trash instead toss them into the compost. Old foliage has so much nutrients that you can add back into your garden through your compost.

Soil. Ok this is a new one for me. I’m no longer tossing out used potting soil. Instead I’m either adding it to my raised beds or adding it to the compost bins. This is a great way to give old soil a new life.

I’m sure there’s more things that we gardeners can keep out of the trash but these items are perfect for reuse for the following garden seasons!

Happy Gardening!
